TSG-X Terms of Reference

The TSG Core Networks (TSG-X) is responsible for the specifications of the Core network part of systems, based on 3GPP2 specifications.

Specifically, it has a responsibility for:

  • core network internal interfaces for call associated and non-call associated signaling;
  • IP technology to support wireless packet data services, including voice and other multimedia services;
  • core network internal interfaces for bearer transport;
  • encouraging synergy with other relevant standards/specifications setting bodies
  • charging, accounting and billing specifications
  • management of work items placed under its responsibility;
  • validation and verification of specification text it develops.

More specifically, TSG-X will address the following areas of work as well as any new technological developments as they may occur:

  • evolution of core network to support interoperability and intersystem operations;
  • UIM support (removable and integrated);
  • network support for enhanced privacy, authentication, data integrity and other security aspects;
  • support for new supplemental services (including ISDN interworking);
  • optimal interoperability specifications for international roaming;
  • new features or enhancements for international roaming;
  • IMT-2000 issues, as necessary, to ensure support for ANS-41;
  • wireless IP services
  • multimedia services (e.g., voice over IP)
  • IP mobility management
  • private network access
  • QoS support
